Wishing you a good New Years ahead
This coming end of the present year and beginning of a new year makes me reflect on my job. As I think about the job as a Flight Attendant I realized how lucky we are. I am so grateful that we don't work under a supervisor or boss every time we go to work. If we don't like someone we just have to put up working with them for a very short time and may never see them again. I can't imagine the stress of going to an office atmosphere where you have to confront a co-worker or boss you don't like. Once home we can leave our work at work. Getting time off is not usually a problem. Not very many people can take off for ten days each month and travel somewhere if they wish, or work their schedule so they have a whole month off.
It is not easy when you first start flying. The pay is minimal, but the benefits are great. If you can work with what you are given, and realize it will get easier as time goes you will have a great career and a lot of wonderful experiences. If you love to travel this job allows you to take off and see the world at your whim. After a while we take this lifestyle for granted, but as you look at what the average worker has, we have it pretty good.
Hope your holiday season is special this year.
Cheers to all!

Flight Attendant Hiring Outlook
"Legacy Carriers – Beaten up by high employee costs, surging fuel prices, competition from low priced carriers, and overall inefficiency, two legacy carriers [defined as those air carriers who have helped shape the US airline industry] are turning the corner and are hiring flight attendants. United Airlines and Continental Airlines are hiring for various bases within the US.
Discount Carriers – Southwest, AirTran, Mesa, and Alaska Airlines are all hiring right now. In fact, across the board hiring is taking place at virtually all discounters right now as they seek to strengthen their footing in the marketplace.
Regional Carriers – Chautauqua, Comair, Champion Air, and Air Wisconsin are all hiring. Like the discount carriers, most regional carriers are awash in cash and are expanding their routes. More routes means additional employees needed to fill the increased capacity.
Charter Carriers – Air Miami and several other airlines that fly unscheduled flights are hiring. Start Up Carriers – The two newest air carriers, EOS Airlines and Maxjet Airways, have recently hired flight attendants and are expected to hire again."
Here is some of the break down on who is hiring flight attendants right now. They didn't mention Virgin America, but since they are a new start-up discount carrier I am sure they also have Flight Attendant jobs.
If you are interested in looking in to applying with one of these carriers just google the airline name and go to their main website for Flight Attendant hiring information.
Flight Attendant Hiring Outlook
This is great news. I know 2000 sounds like a lot of Flight Attendants, but when United used to have 24,000 flight attendants and now are down to less than 15,000 Flight Attendants, it is a long way to go since pre 911. Hopefully the airlines can eventually get their numbers back up. 2000 isn't much but it is a good start. Let's keep those Flight Attendant jobs coming!
Do you want to be a flight attendant?
When I was hired 22 years ago, I applied to many airlines. If I didn't get accepted by one, you just went for the next airline that was hiring and even if you did you still wanted to interview with the different airlines so you could have the opportunity to pick which carrier you want to fly for. I flew for Pan American Airways and after they went under I had to go through the interview process all over again. I got hired right away with an airline but I had to keep interviewing with the different airlines while I was waiting to get called for a training date, so that I could keep on collecting unemployment. I would show up for an interview and I remember looking at some of the people who showed up for the open house. They were obviously not dressed right and I wanted to walk up to them and tell them not to waste their time and go home. I felt bad these people weren't better informed. They seemed like fine candidates but I knew by the way they were dressed they wouldn't even be considered. Now, with the limited opportunity I feel it is imperative for prospective flight attendants to acquire the flight attendant hiring tips.
I developed this website to give people the opportunity to be able to be informed and hopefully get it right the first time and get hired. It is a great lifestyle and really hard to give up. I started out thinking I would do this for only a short time and then do my "real job".

If you have ever applied to an airline before, and have NOT been hired, READ THIS! I was a Flight Attendant Recruiter for a major airline for a short time, also a FA for 7 years. There are many things that we must SEE and HEAR to be considered as a prospective flight attendant. We do look at the "Entire Package" that YOU are presenting. From the moment you walk into your interview and exit the facility. Here are some GREAT TIPS to success in your interview process.
1. Do Your RESEARCH before you go on your interview. Buy a book, talk to other flight attendant.
2. Resume must be Outstanding, including an OBJECTIVE.
ex: I am highly enthusiatic, team player, and am willing to RELOCATE to any base. We want to see that you are FLEXIBLE.
3. Dress the part. Wear a professional suit that makes you look like a flight attendant. Ladies- every piece of hair must be pulled up and tight.
4. Talk the part. They like to see that your social and interactive with others. This is why we conduct a GROUP INTERVIEW. We are taking note of your interactions with others. TALK TO PEOPLE IN THE ROOM.
5. Have CONFIDENCE in yourself when you sit with your recruiter in your one-on-one. We as a company want to know why we should hire you. DO NOT say "because I love people and want to travel". This is the obvious. Ex: I want to work for a company that offers a world of "diversity" such as _________ airlines, and that exceeds their customers expectations on a daily basis.
6. Make DIRECT eye contact with your interviewer. We like to see that you have an interest and focus in the job.
7. Conclude your interview with confidence. ex: I hope to hear from you soon, and thank you for your time today. Manners go a LONG WAY.
BTW- Most airlines, again, most airlines, (not every airline) USUALLY let you know on the spot if you have been hired. Often times we will say, "Can you excuse me for just a moment", and bring back your offer of acceptance.
This pretty much sums it up in a short concise manner. Hope this helps you. Let me know what you think.
